Inflatable Installation // Botanical Garden Linz AT
2018
The botanical garden suggests nativeness is though characterized by and originates from human curation and influence. It serves the urban human as a place for relaxation. Only the human intervention, care and control make the visitor´s comfort and the exotic variety possible. The inflatable parasite is taking advantage of the exisiting infrastucture.
In the glass houses the human intvention becomes clearest. Temperature, humidity, soil and light are defined to create the ideal conditions for a fertile, exotic diversity. This is the parasite´s source of energy. He sucks on the numerous ventilators that irregularly generate an airstream by which the corpus of the prarasite gains its volume. Its shape is revealing visual similarites to succulents and parasites. Made from palstics it emphasizes the ambivalence of the garden as a fusion of the synthetic and nature.
